The Ogun State Police Command has reportedly detained a Celestial Church pastor, identified as Omogbolahan Israel Idowu, over allegations of sexually abusing his 16-year-old stepdaughter.
According to a report by SaharaReporters, the allegations were brought to the attention of the police by the Lagos State branch of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), which submitted a formal petition requesting an investigation and protection for the teenager.
The human rights organisation alleged that the abuse began when the girl was 14 years old and continued until she turned 16.
How the Alleged Abuse Began
According to the petition dated October 26, 2026, the teenager's mother, identified as Bukola Rachel Omogbolahan, reportedly moved with her children into the pastor's residence in the Ologbo Ark area of Shimawa, Ogun State, following their marriage.
CDHR alleged that the teenager began experiencing sexual abuse while living in the same house as the pastor.
The organisation further claimed that the suspect threatened to kill the girl if she ever revealed the alleged abuse.
These threats reportedly left the teenager and her elder brother afraid for their safety.
Police Detain Pastor And His Wife
Following the petition, the Divisional Police Officer of Shimawa Police Division reportedly acknowledged receipt of the complaint on October 27.
The police subsequently invited the pastor, his wife and another Celestial Church clergyman for questioning.
After obtaining their statements, officers reportedly detained the pastor and the teenager's mother as investigations continued.
On October 28, the teenager was taken to Shimawa General Hospital for medical examinations. CDHR disclosed that the medical results were subsequently submitted to the police.
Case Transferred To Ogun Police Headquarters</ p>
On October 30, the case files involving the pastor and his wife were reportedly transferred to the Ogun State Police Command headquarters at Eleweran.
The matter was subsequently moved to the D3 Gender Unit in Oke-Ilewo for further investigation.
CDHR also alleged that the pastor admitted during police questioning to having sexual contact with the teenager on two occasions.
However, the alleged admission has not been independently confirmed through an official police statement.
CDHR Demands Justice And Protection For The Children
The human rights organisation has called on the police to thoroughly investigate the allegations and prosecute the suspect if found culpable.
It also requested adequate protection for the teenager and her elder brother, as well as their referral to appropriate child-protection and social-welfare agencies.
CDHR reportedly cited provisions of the Child Rights Act 2003 and the Ogun State Child Rights Law in its petition.</ p>
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters disclosed that attempts to obtain comments from the investigating police officer, Superintendent of Police Kafaya, and the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, were unsuccessful as of the time of its report.
The investigation is reportedly ongoing, and the allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
The immediate concern remains the safety and protection of the teenager as authorities continue their investigation.
