FCT Police Arrest NSCDC Officer Over Kubwa Market Shooting, Recover Pistol and 17 Bullets

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has reportedly arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Onoja Samuel, over an alleged shooting incident at Kubwa Market in Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., following a confrontation between the officer and some traders at the market.

According to reports attributed to the FCT Police Command, the Kubwa Police Division received a distress call about a man allegedly firing a pistol into the air.

Police operatives were immediately deployed to the scene, where they reportedly disarmed and arrested the suspect.

What Led to the Shooting Incident?

Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that the NSCDC officer had gone to the market following allegations that some traders had assaulted his wife.

The situation allegedly escalated into an argument between the officer and the traders, during which he reportedly fired several shots into the air.

However, the allegations surrounding the confrontation remain subject to investigation.< /p>

Police Recover Pistol and 17 Rounds of Ammunition

During the arrest, police reportedly recovered a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition from the suspect.

The officer was identified as a Deputy Superintendent of Corps in the NSCDC.

The police said the suspect was in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible court proceedings.

FCT Police Commissioner Warns Security Personnel

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, reportedly urged personnel of other security agencies to exercise restraint when dealing with members of the public.

He also stressed the importance of notifying the nearest police division before conducting authorised operations within the FCT.

According to the reported statement, proper coordination between security agencies is necessary to prevent avoidable confrontations and protect public safety.

NSCDC Takes Disciplinary Action

Separately, reports published on October 29, 2026, indicated that the NSCDC had suspended the officer and ordered an internal disciplinary process over the incident.

The development adds another layer to the case as investigations into the alleged shooting continue.

The outcome of both the police investigation and the NSCDC disciplinary proceedings is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Important: The allegations against the officer have not been established by a court. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty through due legal process.
