BREAKING: Sowore Hospitalised After Alleged Abduction by Armed Thugs at Ekiti Restaurant, Police Reveal What Happened

Nigerian activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been taken to hospital after a violent incident involving suspected thugs at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, sparked widespread concern after reports emerged on social media alleging that armed men had abducted the former presidential candidate from an eatery, leaving his whereabouts unknown.

How Sowore Was Reportedly Taken Away

The alarm was first raised through posts on Sowore's official social media accounts, which alleged that armed thugs had stormed Tawakalitu Restaurants and Catering Services in Ado-Ekiti and forcibly taken him away.

According to the initial reports, the attackers allegedly invaded the restaurant and attacked Sowore and members of his entourage.

The incident reportedly left parts of the restaurant damaged, with furniture and other property affected.

His associates also raised concerns about his safety, alleging that the attackers were politically motivated.

The campaign team further alleged that security operatives had been monitoring their movements before the incident.

However, these allegations have not been independently established.

Police Break Silence, Reveal Sowore's Whereabouts

Following the alarming reports, the Ekiti State Police Command issued a statement addressing the incident.

The police dismissed claims that Sowore had been kidnapped, explaining that preliminary information indicated that he was involved in an altercation with some individuals at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, officers received an alert and immediately mobilised to the location.

The police said their operatives successfully rescued Sowore from the situation.

The command further disclosed that the activist sustained injuries during the incident and was taken to the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti, where he was receiving medical attention.

Sowore Rejects Police Account, Insists They Were Attacked

However, Sowore disagreed with the police description of the incident as an altercation.

In his reaction, the activist insisted that he and members of his team were attacked by armed men.

He accused the police of downplaying the seriousness of the incident by describing it as a mere altercation and referring to the injuries as minor.

Sowore also raised allegations concerning the possible involvement of security operatives, including the Department of State Services (DSS).

These allegations have not been independently verified.

Police Commissioner Orders Investigation

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident.

The investigation is expected to establish exactly what happened at the restaurant, identify everyone involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The police have urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information.

What Happened to Sowore?

As of Friday, October 30, the police confirmed that Omoyele Sowore was receiving medical attention at the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti after sustaining injuries during the incident.

Although the police have denied that he was kidnapped, Sowore maintains that he and his associates were violently attacked.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about political violence, freedom of expression and the safety of opposition politicians ahead of Nigeria's 2027 general elections.
