2027: Why Tinubu May Skip Campaign Rallies in Some States — APC Chieftain Explains

As preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election continue, an APC chieftain, Obafemi George, has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not attend campaign rallies in all 36 states of the federation.

According to reports, George, a member of the media and strategic communications team of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, said the president had assessed Nigeria’s electoral map and decided that preserving the gains of his administration was more important than embarking on a nationwide campaign tour.

His comments have drawn attention to the ruling party’s reported campaign strategy ahead of the next presidential election.

No Constitutional Requirement to Visit Every State

Obafemi George reportedly argued that there is no constitutional requirement compelling a presidential candidate to visit every state in Nigeria during an election campaign.

According to his explanation, a presidential candidate does not necessarily have to attend rallies in all 36 states to campaign for an election.

The position suggests that the APC may adopt a campaign strategy that allows other party leaders to represent the president at rallies in states he does not personally visit.

Tinubu Reportedly to Attend Selected Rallies

Reports indicate that President Tinubu may attend campaign rallies in selected states while other APC leaders handle engagements in other parts of the country.

The reported approach would allow the president to participate in the campaign while continuing to attend to governance responsibilities.

However, the final campaign schedule and the president’s actual attendance at individual rallies remain subject to official announcements.

<p>What This Means for the 2027 Election

Campaign rallies are an important part of Nigeria’s electoral process, giving candidates opportunities to present their plans, engage supporters and communicate their political messages.

Whether a candidate visits every state or concentrates on selected locations, voters will still be interested in the candidate’s policies, record in office and plans for the country.

As the 2027 election approaches, further announcements from the APC and other political parties are expected to provide more details about their campaign strategies.

What is your opinion? Should a presidential candidate visit all 36 states during an election campaign, or can a candidate rely on other party leaders to campaign in some states? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
