The Chidinma Ojukwu Case: Beauty, Controversy, and the Long Wait for Justice

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi Condemns US Airstrike in Sokoto, Calls for “Clean Hands” in Fighting Terrorism

Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi has publicly condemned the recent US military airstrike targeting ISIS-linked militants in Sokoto State, Nigeria. The strike, which took place on Christmas Day, was part of international counter-terrorism efforts coordinated with the Nigerian government.

Gumi, however, criticized the operation, arguing that foreign intervention lacks the moral authority to fight terrorism effectively in Nigeria.

According to reports:

Gumi called the strike a mistake and insisted that counter-terrorism operations should be carried out by those with “clean hands,” rather than foreign powers like the United States. The Whistler

Gumi’s condemnation reflects a broader critique of foreign military intervention rather than a denial of the need to fight terrorism.

Gumi’s remarks have sparked discussion across Nigeria:

Some Nigerians support his call for local and morally accountable counter-terrorism efforts.

Critics argue that foreign support can be necessary to combat well-armed extremist groups that local forces struggle to contain.

The incident highlights ongoing debate on how Nigeria should balance sovereignty, security, and international assistance.

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi’s condemnation of the US airstrike in Sokoto underscores the importance of ethics, accountability, and national sovereignty in fighting terrorism. While coordinated foreign support can aid Nigeria’s security forces, Gumi insists that effective counter-terrorism should come from those with clean hands, reinforcing the need for both legitimacy and moral authority in military operations.
