🔥 Retired ACP Sheriff Abubakar Rabiu Shakes the North With Blistering Open Letter to Religious Leaders
A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sheriff Abubakar Rabiu, has stirred massive reactions across Northern Nigeria after releasing a strongly worded open letter targeting certain religious leaders. His message, which has since gone viral across social media platforms, challenges what he describes as dangerous sermons, intolerance, and divisive preaching.
In the letter, Rabiu accused some clerics of using their pulpits to spread hatred, promote extremism, and label Christians or other groups in derogatory ways. He noted that such actions fuel tension, radicalization, and worsen the social divide in the North.
Rabiu also highlighted the urgent need to reform the Almajiri system, regulate preaching, and enforce strict laws against hate speech—especially inside religious institutions where influence is strongest.
According to him, Nigeria cannot progress if religious platforms continue to be misused to incite followers rather than promote peace, unity, and development.
His message has since triggered heated debates among scholars, activists, political commentators, and ordinary citizens. While many hailed him for “speaking truth to power,” others argued that his comments targeted sensitive issues that require deeper dialogue.
But one thing is clear: Rabiu’s letter has put a spotlight on conversations that many have avoided for too long.
