Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued an urgent directive for the immediate removal of all non-essential roadblocks and unauthorized checkpoints nationwide. This move aims to streamline security operations, reduce travel delays, and enhance freedom of movement across the country.
The DHQ has clarified that only strategically essential checkpoints will remain operational, with security personnel focusing on mobile patrols and intelligence-driven operations to ensure public safety. The directive affects major highways, including Abuja–Lagos, Abuja–Kaduna–Kano, and Lagos–Benin–Asaba routes.
Officials stress that the removal of unnecessary checkpoints will boost efficiency, improve public trust in security forces, and make the transport of goods and passengers smoother nationwide. Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during this transition.
