Prominent Nigerian cleric, Bishop David Abioye, has strongly condemned those who deny that Christians are being targeted and killed across Nigeria, describing such people as a “wicked set of individuals.”
Speaking during a recent church service, the respected pastor expressed deep concern over what he called the “silence and denial” surrounding the ongoing killings in different parts of the country.
“You see people buried in their hundreds, and you say there is no genocide? What a wicked set of people!” he declared passionately.
Bishop Abioye, who serves as the General Overseer of the Living Word Conquerors Global Assembly, argued that while violence has affected both Christians and Muslims, the attacks on Christian communities have become “very clear and gradually spreading toward the South-West and South-East.”
He accused some Nigerian leaders of denying the atrocities for selfish political reasons, saying many have “sold out their faith, if they have any at all.”
The fiery sermon has since stirred national debate, with some religious and human rights groups backing Abioye’s comments, while others, including government officials, insist that the violence in Nigeria is not based on religion but rather on banditry, terrorism, and local conflicts.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has consistently dismissed international reports describing the situation as a “Christian genocide,” insisting that the conflict is complex and affects all communities.
Abioye’s statement adds to a growing call among Nigerian church leaders urging the government to take stronger action to end persistent attacks and protect citizens across all regions.
