President Bola Ahmed Tinubu postponed his planned trip to the G20 Summit in South Africa, citing the urgent need to coordinate national security efforts at home. The decision comes amid rising concerns following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and a violent attack on a church in Kwara State.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu received an extensive briefing from the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) on the escalating security situation. In response, he directed the military, police, and other agencies to deploy more personnel across affected regions to restore calm and intensify rescue operations.
While postponing the trip, Tinubu emphasized that the safety of Nigerians remains his top priority. Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent Nigeria at the summit, ensuring the nation remains engaged in critical global discussions.
This move signals Tinubu’s focus on domestic security and his commitment to ensuring swift action as Nigeria navigates these challenging times.
