Panic has gripped parts of Sokoto State after suspected terrorists loyal to the notorious warlord Bello Turji attacked a village in Isa Local Government Area on the night of Friday, November 7, 2025.
According to multiple reports, including Sahara Reporters and Linda Ikeji’s Blog, the heavily armed group stormed Bargaja village, opening fire on residents and burning homes. At least five people were killed, while nine young women were reportedly abducted during the assault.
Witnesses said the gunmen arrived on motorcycles, shooting indiscriminately and looting valuables before disappearing into nearby bushes. The attack, which lasted for hours, left the community in shock and mourning.
The assailants are said to be loyal to Bello Turji, a wanted bandit leader who has been linked to numerous violent attacks across north-western Nigeria. Residents say the group has been terrorizing rural communities in the Isa-Sabon Birni axis, where government presence remains weak.
Locals are now appealing to the Sokoto State Government and federal security agencies to increase patrols and protect vulnerable villages from further attacks.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Sokoto State Police Command, but military and security sources say reinforcements have been deployed to the area.
The Sokoto tragedy adds to Nigeria’s growing list of violent attacks in rural areas. As families mourn their loved ones and search for the missing, citizens continue to call for stronger action against banditry and terrorism in the North.
