Residents of Yan Kwada village, located in the Faruruwa community of Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, were thrown into panic on Sunday evening as heavily armed bandits invaded their community, abducting five women, including four nursing mothers.
According to local sources, the attackers stormed the village around dusk, firing sporadic gunshots that sent villagers fleeing for safety. Eyewitnesses reported that the bandits broke into several homes, targeting women before retreating into the bush with their captives.
Community members said the attackers operated freely for over an hour without any immediate response from security forces. Out of the five abducted victims, two reportedly managed to escape, while three others remain in captivity as of press time.
The Kano State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the attack, though local vigilante groups have intensified search efforts to rescue the remaining victims.
Residents of Shanono and neighboring communities are calling for stronger security presence in the area, as incidents of banditry continue to spread from neighboring states into parts of Kano.
This attack adds to the growing list of violent raids targeting rural communities in northern Nigeria, where insecurity remains a pressing concern despite ongoing military operations.
