Soun High School Teacher Passes Away: Fact-Checking Viral Claims

On November 4, 2025, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, a teacher at Soun High School, Ogbomoso, sadly passed away. Contrary to circulating social media rumors, he did not die from a student attack.

According to official statements from the Oyo State government and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Adegoke had been diagnosed with stage‑4 bone marrow cancer, which was the cause of his death.

The rumor suggested that Mr. Adegoke was violently attacked by students for attempting to discipline them.

While it is true that in May 2025, he caught four students gambling in class and dislocated his arm during an attempt to manage the situation, this incident was unrelated to his death.

The state government, school officials, and the NUT have clarified that the viral claims were misleading and urged the public not to spread false information.

The principal of Soun High School confirmed the teacher’s death was due to illness, not violence from students.

While the passing of Mr. Adegoke is tragic, it’s important to verify stories before sharing online. Misinformation can cause unnecessary panic and damage reputations.
