NDLEA Nabs 28-Year-Old Drug Kingpin “Aka Malu” in Lagos Over Fake Medicinal Cannabis Syndicate

Lagos — In a major breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 28-year-old drug kingpin identified as Afeez Salisu, popularly known as “Aka Malu.”

According to NDLEA officials, Aka Malu was arrested on Saturday, November 1, 2025, following a well-coordinated intelligence raid at his residence located at 2 Akala Street, off Umoru Street, Idi Oro, Mushin, Lagos.

During the raid, operatives recovered 16.4 kilograms of dangerous synthetic cannabis strains, including “Colorado,” “Arizona,” “Canadian Loud,” and “Ghana Loud.” These illegal substances were packaged in designer cups and pouches, misleadingly branded as medicinal cannabis to deceive unsuspecting buyers.

The NDLEA clarified that cannabis remains an illegal substance under Nigerian law, and that the seized products had no medical authorization or therapeutic value.

In a public warning, the agency urged Nigerians—especially youths—to beware of drug traffickers disguising illicit substances as “medicinal” products. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd.) reiterated that such operations exploit public ignorance and endanger lives for profit.

Authorities have since launched a wider investigation into the supply chain and distribution network linked to Aka Malu’s syndicate.

The NDLEA reaffirmed its commitment to wiping out illegal drug operations in Lagos and across Nigeria.

“No amount of rebranding can make narcotics legal. We will continue to track, arrest, and prosecute offenders,” the agency stated.
