Nasarawa Police Debunk Kidnap Rumour: Students Mistook Hunters for Kidnappers

The Nasarawa State Police Command has officially dismissed fresh reports claiming that pupils were kidnapped from St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area. According to the police, no student was abducted, and the alarming rumors circulating online were based on a misunderstanding.

Police spokespersons confirmed that the incident occurred around 10:00 AM, when students were outside on the field for sports activities. During this time, they spotted local hunters carrying Dane guns in a nearby area.

Mistaking the hunters for kidnappers, the students panicked and raised an alarm, causing widespread fear and leading to false reports of abductions.

Security operatives—including police officers and military personnel—were immediately deployed to the area. After combing the environment, authorities found no sign of an abduction or security breach.

The school headmistress and proprietor further supported the police report, confirming that all students were safe and that the situation had been misunderstood.

The police have urged the public and media outlets to verify facts before spreading information that may cause fear or tension in the state.

The Nasarawa kidnap scare turned out to be a false alarm, with authorities confirming that the students simply misidentified hunters as kidnappers. Normal activities have since resumed, and the community is encouraged to remain calm and alert.
