Human-rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has publicly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s ambassadorial list, describing it as a travesty and a reward for criminality and misdeeds.
According to Effiong, many nominees are career politicians who have failed to deliver, sycophants, or individuals with questionable moral records. He highlighted that the inclusion of some figures, such as former INEC officials, is particularly disturbing, given controversies surrounding their roles in past elections.
Effiong argued that ambassadorial appointments reflect a country’s integrity and international reputation. By selecting nominees he considers compromised, he believes the list fails to inspire confidence and undermines Nigeria’s representation abroad.
The criticism comes amid growing public debate over Tinubu’s latest batch of ambassadorial nominees, with Effiong calling for merit-based selections that truly represent Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.
