On Thursday, the Katsina State Hisbah Board carried out a major enforcement operation in Funtua, destroying more than 120 cartons of seized alcoholic drinks.
The operation was led by D.C. Bashir Lawal Balarabe, the Hisbah commander in Dandume LGA, along with officials from the Funtua zone.
Also present was the State Commander‑General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Malam Aminu Usman (Abu‑Ammar), PhD, who oversaw the burning exercise.
The confiscated alcohol was seized during routine patrols aimed at curbing the consumption and distribution of intoxicants, which Hisbah considers unlawful under Islamic law.
Hisbah authorities argue this is part of a broader fight against “moral decadence” in the state.
Islamic scholars who participated in the event reiterated that alcohol is strictly forbidden in Islam, warning of its destructive effects on society.
Hisbah’s Commander‑General praised Governor Dikko Radda for strengthening the institution, saying the crackdown aligns with efforts to protect the moral fabric of communities.
This isn’t the first time Katsina Hisbah has carried out such a purge: in 2024, the board destroyed alcohol and illicit drugs valued at ₦60 million in Funtua.
In a previous operation, they also seized 142 cartons of alcohol destined for Daura LGA.
The Funtua destruction exercise underscores the Katsina State Hisbah Board’s renewed push to enforce Sharia morality laws. By publicly burning such a large haul of alcohol, they are sending a strong message: intoxicants will not be tolerated. Whether this deters future trafficking or sparks debate, it highlights the board’s role in shaping the values of its communities.
