Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has firmly denied claims that his administration paid money to bandits in the state. Addressing these allegations in multiple interviews, Sani described them as “pure mischief” and said his government has never paid a dime to any criminal group.
In a TVC News interview, he stated:
“We have not paid one person a dime … not one naira to anybody.”
During a Prime Time TV appearance, he emphasized that the state is focusing on building security structures and helping victims, not negotiating with bandits.
The governor highlighted that Kaduna’s approach includes community-based security models with religious and traditional leaders to tackle banditry effectively.
In addition, Uba Sani revealed that instead of paying ransom, his administration has built houses for victims of banditry, providing tangible support to affected families.
Former governor El-Rufai allegedly claimed the state paid ₦1 billion to bandits — a claim strongly denied by Uba Sani and the Kaduna State Government.
The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) also rejected similar allegations, confirming that Nigerian governments do not pay ransoms to criminal groups.
Uba Sani’s denial reinforces Kaduna’s stance against negotiating with bandits. The administration’s focus on community engagement, security cooperation, and victim support highlights a more sustainable approach to tackling banditry, rather than resorting to ransom payments.
