Former Brazilian footballer Robinho, once celebrated for his dazzling footwork at Real Madrid, Manchester City, and AC Milan, has finally spoken out about his life in prison after being sentenced to nine years for his role in a 2013 gang-rape case in Italy.

The 40-year-old ex-striker is currently serving his sentence in Brazil, following a ruling by the country’s Superior Court of Justice in 2024 that allowed the Italian conviction to be enforced locally.

In a recent interview from prison, Robinho reflected on his experience and the lessons he’s learned since losing his freedom. He reportedly spoke about adjusting to a new daily routine, engaging in skill-development courses, and maintaining faith despite his legal and personal struggles.

The former football star insists he is innocent, maintaining that the encounter in question was consensual. His lawyers continue to explore every available legal option to challenge the Italian verdict, even as Robinho serves his sentence in São Paulo.

Robinho’s conviction was first upheld by Italy’s Supreme Court in 2022 after multiple appeals failed. The court found him guilty of participating in the assault of a 23-year-old Albanian woman in Milan in 2013, alongside five others.

While many fans express disappointment at his fall from grace, others say his story is a stark reminder that no one is above the law, regardless of fame or talent.

As Robinho continues to serve his term, he says he’s focused on self-reflection, family, and spiritual renewal — a far cry from the spotlight that once defined his career.
