Fake Nurses in the Making? Lagos Government Shuts Down Illegal Nursing College in Ikorodu

Lagos, Nigeria — November 6, 2025:

In a decisive move to safeguard public health and restore confidence in nursing education, the Lagos State Government has shut down Tower College of Health Sciences in Gberigbe, Ikorodu, over its operation of illegal and unaccredited nursing programmes.

The enforcement operation was carried out by the Lagos State Directorate of Nursing Services (DNS), in collaboration with the Nursing and Midwifery Committee of Lagos State and the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM).

According to officials, the college had been running a full-scale nursing programme without approval from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
Investigations revealed shocking gaps — the institution had no demonstration room, no hospital affiliation for clinical postings, and students in 300 level had never undergone accredited clinical training.

The school’s director, Mr. Femi Ajekigbe, was arrested during the operation and handed over to authorities for prosecution.

Officials also confirmed that the school was sealed on November 6, 2025, following repeated warnings and a formal closure notice first issued in February 2025 for non-compliance.

A senior DNS official described the development as “a major victory against quackery in the healthcare sector,” warning parents and guardians to verify institutions before enrolling their wards.

“We will not tolerate any illegal training centre that endangers the public by producing unqualified nurses,” the statement read.

The Lagos State Government has since pledged to intensify monitoring and crack down on all unaccredited health training schools across the state, stressing that only NMCN-approved institutions are authorized to admit and train student nurses.

Public health experts have applauded the move, saying unqualified nurses contribute to rising cases of malpractice, unsafe care, and preventable patient deaths.

As the government continues its statewide enforcement drive, Lagos residents are urged to report any suspected illegal nursing or health science schools through the official Ministry of Health channels.

Lagos shuts illegal nursing college, fake nurses Nigeria, Tower College of Health Sciences Ikorodu, NMCN accreditation, Lagos health enforcement, nursing quackery Nigeria, unaccredited nursing school.
