Residents and travellers in Yagba East, Kogi State, were thrown into panic on November 29 after armed bandits reportedly launched an attack on a vehicle along the Isanlu Makutu–Idofin highway.
According to local reports, the gunmen ambushed travellers in broad daylight, forcing motorists to abandon their vehicles and flee into the bush to escape the onslaught. Early information indicates that at least two persons were abducted, while others narrowly escaped.
Eyewitnesses say the attackers emerged suddenly, firing sporadically to stop oncoming vehicles. The incident caused serious tension in the area as news spread, with residents warning others to avoid the route.
Security agencies have since been alerted, and a tactical team has been deployed to the scene to track the attackers and rescue the abducted persons. Authorities have urged travellers to remain vigilant and avoid isolated highways until further notice.
