SHOCKWAVE: University Disowns Certificate of Tinubu's Science Minister, Uche Nnaji

In a massive blow to the credibility of President Bola Tinubu's cabinet, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has officially disowned the Bachelor of Science degree certificate presented by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.

This revelation confirms allegations that have dogged the Minister since his appointment. In a formal response to an inquiry, the UNN management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, stated unequivocally that while Uche Nnaji was admitted in 1981, he did not complete his studies and was never awarded a degree by the institution in July 1985 as claimed.

The scandal deepened when the Minister, in a recent court affidavit related to his own lawsuit against the university, effectively admitted that the UNN had never issued him a certificate. This disclosure validates the forgery findings not only regarding the university degree but also the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate he used for his ministerial screening, which has also been disowned by the NYSC authorities.

The Minister's legal action—an attempt to compel the university to release his academic records—was further tainted after a Federal High Court judge refused to grant an injunction to stop the release of his academic history. This high-profile case of alleged certificate forgery has cast a severe shadow on the vetting processes of the Senate and security agencies.
