Nigerian Businessmen Slam VeryDarkMan Over China Trade Videos — Accuse Him of Exposing Trade Secrets
The outspoken social media critic, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has once again stirred online controversy — this time over his China trade videos, which some Nigerian business owners claim are hurting their businesses.
VDM, known for his bold exposés and activism, recently shared videos showing Nigerians how to connect directly with Chinese manufacturers and import goods without middlemen. While many praised the move as empowering and educational, a section of Nigerian traders — especially those in the import and resale business — saw it as a threat to their livelihood.
Several traders took to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to voice their anger, accusing VDM of “exposing trade secrets” and “spoiling market” for local merchants who depend on resale profits.
“He doesn’t understand how hard we work to build these contacts in China,” one Lagos-based trader lamented. “Now anyone can bypass us and go direct. It’s unfair.”
Others, however, defended VDM, saying his videos promote transparency and economic independence for ordinary Nigerians struggling with inflation and rising import costs.
The controversy has quickly gone viral, with hashtags like #VeryDarkManChinaTrip, #TradeSecrets, and #BusinessBacklash trending across Nigerian social media.
As of now, no official lawsuit or legal action has been confirmed against VDM — but the digital storm highlights the growing tension between traditional business secrecy and the era of online openness.
