Nigerian Army Launches Major Offensive in Kwara State to Crush Kidnapping Gangs and Restore Peace

The Nigerian Army has launched a major military operation across Kwara State, targeting forest hideouts used by kidnapping and banditry gangs that have terrorized rural communities in recent months.

According to official reports, heavily armed troops have been deployed to Oke Ode, Babanla, Edu, and Patigi local government areas as part of a large-scale effort to flush out criminals and restore security to the region.

The move follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu, who ordered the military to reclaim control of the forest zones and dismantle the rising network of kidnapping syndicates threatening peace in the North-Central region.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has confirmed the operation, expressing gratitude to the federal government for its swift response. The governor stated that the offensive marks “a turning point in the fight to reclaim Kwara’s rural communities from criminal elements.”

The operation—part of the ongoing Operation Fasan Yanma—involves aerial surveillance, ground raids, and intelligence-led missions to clear out camps and arrest suspected kidnappers. Early reports suggest that several suspects have already been apprehended while hostages were rescued in coordinated raids.

Security analysts say the campaign reflects the government’s renewed determination to restore peace and investor confidence in the region, as rising insecurity has disrupted trade, farming, and local transport routes.

Although full results are yet to emerge, locals have expressed cautious optimism, hoping this offensive will finally end years of fear and criminal activity.
