The Kano State Government is preparing to host a historic mass wedding for 2,000 couples, part of a renewed effort to support widows, divorcees, and vulnerable citizens while promoting unity and moral values in the state.
According to official reports, the government has allocated ₦2.5 billion in the 2025 budget for the programme, which will take place across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state. This initiative is designed to strengthen family bonds, reduce the financial burden of marriage, and provide stability for those who might otherwise be unable to afford traditional wedding expenses.
The mass wedding is part of a broader social welfare programme, aimed at improving the lives of residents through empowerment and community-based initiatives.
In previous editions, Kano State successfully married off 1,800 couples, providing them with dowries, furniture, and household essentials. The new programme is expected to be even more impactful — helping couples start their lives with dignity and support.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has emphasized that the scheme is not merely symbolic but a practical step to empower the poor and foster social harmony in the state.
Observers believe the programme could serve as a model for other states, combining cultural values with modern governance to support social stability and reduce poverty-related challenges.
