Tension Mounts as Nigeria’s Security Chiefs Hold Emergency Meeting Over Donald Trump’s Military Threat

House of Representatives to Debate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Health This Week

Amid rising public concern, Nigeria’s House of Representatives is set to debate a motion regarding the health condition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Lawmakers will deliberate on a motion seeking urgent medical intervention for Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2021.

The motion, sponsored by concerned members of the House, aims to compel federal authorities to ensure that Kanu receives adequate medical care amid reports that his health is deteriorating.

During a recent session, tensions reportedly rose over delays in addressing the matter. However, the Deputy Speaker assured the House that the issue will be properly tabled for discussion this week.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has confirmed that its independent panel has not yet concluded its health assessment of Kanu, as disclosed by DSS representatives in court.

This debate marks a significant moment in Nigeria’s legislative landscape, touching on both human rights and national security. The outcome could influence future engagement between the National Assembly and the executive on sensitive security detainees.

Stay updated as the House prepares to debate this motion in the coming days.
