Edo State is boiling again — and this time, it’s over crumbling roads, abandoned projects, and failed promises.
Former governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has once again drawn attention to the worsening state of infrastructure across Edo communities. From Auchi to Ibillo, residents are crying out as pothole-ridden roads turn daily travel into a nightmare.
Frustrated by years of neglect, angry youths recently blocked the Auchi–Igarra–Ibillo highway, demanding action from both state and federal governments. They say the roads have become death traps — worsening insecurity and causing economic hardship.
“We can’t even go to our farms or move goods safely anymore,” one protester lamented.
Reports reveal that a ₦200 million Warake–Ivbiaro road project, aided by Oshiomhole, was left abandoned, cutting off over 20 communities.
At the same time, schools and hospitals across the state are in terrible shape, with leaking roofs and cracked walls.
Even Governor Monday Okpebholo has admitted that Edo’s infrastructure has collapsed under years of neglect. He promised urgent repairs but residents remain skeptical.
While Oshiomhole blames poor leadership and lack of maintenance, supporters of former Governor Godwin Obaseki say the problem lies with federal roads and delayed funding.
Analysts, however, believe Edo’s woes are the result of decades of poor planning, corruption, and lack of accountability.
From Benin City to Etsako, frustration is at boiling point. As social media fills with angry posts and photos of impassable roads, Edo citizens are demanding one thing — action, not excuses.
Until then, Edo’s roads remain a reflection of a broken system, and the people are done staying silent.
