Bishop Ndibueze Okorie Onyagoziri, the General Overseer of Champion the Truth Cathedral, was arrested by the police in Ebonyi State on October 1st. The arrest follows serious allegations of repeated sexual acts involving a 22-year-old female member of his congregation.
The case, which has drawn significant attention across the region, centers on an alleged abuse of power and trust.
The female church member, who reportedly suffers from sickle cell disease, had been seeking spiritual healing through the church. According to reports, the complainant alleges that the Bishop claimed sexual relations for a period of seven days would miraculously alter her genotype from SS to AA.
When the supposed 'healing' failed and her health allegedly deteriorated, the victim disclosed the details to her elder sister, who subsequently advised her to leave the church and reported the matter to law enforcement.
Bishop Onyagoziri is currently in custody at the Ebonyi State Police Headquarters in Abakaliki as authorities continue their thorough investigation in the case. This case serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for robust safeguarding policies and accountability within religious institutions to protect vulnerable members of the community. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the Ebonyi State Police investigation progresses.
