Breaking the Chains: Nigerian Girls Trafficked to Ivory Coast

A recent report has exposed the shocking truth about Nigerian girls being trafficked to Ivory Coast and forced into prostitution. The victims, some as young as 13, are lured with promises of employment or selling products, only to be coerced into sex work upon arrival.

Traffickers often target vulnerable girls in rural communities or through social media platforms like Facebook. They promise better-paid jobs or opportunities, exploiting the high unemployment rate in Nigeria. Once in Ivory Coast, the girls are taught to solicit sex and fake pleasure. Their passports are confiscated, and they're forced to work in brothels, earning between N8,000 to N13,000 per client.

In a bid to combat human trafficking, Nigerian authorities have repatriated 78 citizens, mostly women and girls, from Ivory Coast. The rescue operation was initiated after an online activist exposed the exploitation. Four of the rescued victims were found to be pregnant. The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has launched a manhunt for the traffickers and is working to reunite the victims with their families.

Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, has pledged to bring back trafficked Nigerian girls from Ivory Coast free of charge. The airline's chairman, Allen Onyema, condemned human trafficking as "inhumane and ungodly." He also offered free medical examination and treatment to the victims.

Experts emphasize the importance of awareness and collaboration to prevent human trafficking. The Nigerian community in Ivory Coast has called for unity and cooperation between authorities and activists to protect vulnerable Nigerians, especially children. By working together, we can combat this heinous crime and support its victims.

The trafficking of Nigerian girls to Ivory Coast is a serious issue that requires immediate attention. The Nigerian government and international organizations must work together to prevent human trafficking, protect victims, and bring traffickers to justice. By raising awareness and promoting collaboration, we can help prevent this heinous crime and support its victims.
