The Adara Development Association (ADA) has appealed to Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, to restore the First-Class status of the Adara Chiefdom—a title stripped during the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
In a statement signed by community leaders, the association said the downgrading of the chiefdom not only weakened traditional authority but also deepened the sense of injustice and marginalisation felt among the Adara people.
The ADA argued that reinstating the First-Class status would restore dignity to the Adara throne and strengthen peace, unity, and development in Kajuru and Kachia local government areas.
According to the group, the traditional institution plays a vital role in maintaining peace and resolving conflicts in the volatile region. “We are calling on Governor Uba Sani to reverse this injustice and give the Adara Chiefdom the respect it deserves,” one of the community leaders said.
The Adara Chiefdom lost its First-Class designation during the tenure of former Governor El-Rufai, when traditional structures in parts of Southern Kaduna were reorganized. The move sparked protests, petitions, and unrest, as many accused the government of targeting minority ethnic groups.
With the new administration now in place, the Adara people believe it’s time for reconciliation and restoration. They insist that the reinstatement will symbolize fairness and inclusion in governance.
As of the time of this report, the Kaduna State Government has yet to make an official statement on the appeal. However, analysts believe that responding positively could help ease ethnic tension and foster lasting peace in the region.
