⚖️ Falana Warns Tinubu: INEC Boss Cannot Be Forced Out of Office




Renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has cautioned that President Bola Tinubu has no constitutional power to force INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to proceed on terminaAccording to him, any attempt to pressure the electoral umpire could erode public trust and threaten Nigeria’s democratic process. “The independence of INEC is non-negotiable. Once the President begins to interfere, the credibility of elections will be at stake,” he warned.

This debate comes at a time when political parties are already preparing strategies for the 2027 general elections. Civil society groups and opposition leaders have also expressed concerns, urging the government to respect institutional autonomy.

Observers say the controversy could either strengthen INEC’s resolve to assert its independence or expose it to further political battles in the months ahead.
